hello/namaste!
thank you for visiting this site. my name is shaina, and i am NEST’s facilitator in india.
i am new to india. brand new. i’m from st. louis and have lived in kentucky, boston, and even france…but nothing is quite like this country. the thick air, the exotic smells, the musical language, the heat: everything around me is novel. and, of course, so are the people.
but you’ll hear about that in the days and months to come. for the next year (2011), i will document my journey and NEST’s programs throughout india. you’ll meet the women NEST empowers, learn their stories, and taste their food. you’ll know their names and understand how NEST is working in their lives.
before i came to india, my friend allison asked me, “so will you have special occasion saris and everyday saris???” i had no idea! but that stuck with me. what do people picture when they think of india? bright, beautiful saris? abject poverty? yoga retreats? chai? of course, it’s different for everyone. but this blog will, hopefully, give you a better understanding, a more realistic image. a look at everyday life.
so please, enjoy, ask questions, contemplate, and know that your involvement with NEST is changing the lives of women and families halfway across the world.
shaina
